2022 Red Mountain Sérendipité Deux
Although each of these three grapes—Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Merlot—is known for its bold and distinctive character, reminiscent of the assertive style that defines Red Mountain wines, a remarkable transformation took place during the winemaking process. The result was an unexpected emergence of a Bordeaux blend, which speaks to the unique evolution of this release.
Two primary factors contributed to this metamorphosis. First, the weather conditions of the 2022 vintage played a significant role in shaping the wine’s character. Second, unlike traditional blending methods, these varietals were aged together in barrel from the very beginning, remaining side by side throughout the entire maturation process. This approach fostered an integrated and harmonious profile that distinguishes the blend.
As with its predecessor from the 2020 vintage, this wine’s journey is aptly captured by its name, “Sérendipité” reflecting a fortunate and unanticipated outcome—an understated expression of Bordeaux achieved through a combination of intention, weather and happenstance.
